'The 1 wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' And the Lord Jesus Christ Himself exhorts each of His disciples, saying: 'Be 2 thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.'

The salvation of which we speak is obtained through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Accordingly, whoever believes in Jesus Christ with all his heart, acknowledging the truth of His claim to be the Son of God (ابن الله) and Saviour of the world and placing his whole trust for time and for eternity upon Christ's atonement and on that alone, knowing that for him and for all sinners the sinless Lamb of God laid down his precious life and yet rose again from the dead as the first fruits of those that sleep, such a believer becomes through faith engrafted as a branch in the true 3 Vine, which is Christ Himself, and therefore shares in the salvation which He bestows. He thus obtains forgiveness for all his past sins and is accepted by God Almighty, and becomes heir to true and eternal holiness and happiness. This is clearly taught in the holy Scriptures, as, for example, in the following passages: 'God 4 so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.' 'The Father 5 loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that

obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.' Accordingly, after His resurrection from the dead, the Lord Jesus Christ said unto His disciples: 'All 1 authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.' Therefore St. Paul said to the Jews, when he preached the Gospel to them: 'Be 2 it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins: and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.' In the same way the same Apostle, in answer to the gaoler's question, ' What 3 must I do to be saved?' said: 'Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shall be saved, thou and thy house.' St. Peter too, speaking of Christ and the way of salvation, says: ' He 4 charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he which is ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.' St. Paul points out that God's righteous judgement
