There have been a large number of fatwas issued covering various aspects of Muslim relationships with

non-Muslims; a selection has been reproduced here. All the listed fatwa are in an abridged form,

however the appropriate site is given should one desire to read the full version of it as given by the

Muslims scholars.

Question: We hope that you will be able to explain, with examples, what is meant by the phase, “Taking koafirs as close friends and protectors is harm.”

Answer: Yes, examples will certainly and clarify what is meant, so we will move straight on to quoting some of the most important points that scholars and leaders of da’wah has said:

8. Compromising with them and being nice to them at the expenses of their religion. This includes sitting with them and entering upon them at the time when they are making fun of the Signs of Allaah

9. Trust them and take them as advisors and consultants instead of the believers. From these texts it is clear that we are forbidden to appoint kaafirs to positions whereby they could find out the secrets of the Muslims and plot against them by trying to do all kinds of harm

10. Putting them in administrative positions where they are bosses of Muslims and can humiliate them, run their affairs and prevent them from practicing their religion. Similarly, we should not employ them in Muslim homes where they can see our private matters and they bring our children up as kaafirs. This is what is happening nowadays when kaafirs are brought to Muslim countries as workers, drivers, servants and nannies in Muslim homes and families.

비무슬림이 무슬림의 관리자가 되어 무슬림에게 모욕을 주거나 종교행위를 방해하게 하는 행위. 마찬가지로 비무슬림을 무슬림 집안의 도우미로 고용해 무슬림 가족의 사적인 생활을 보게 하고, 아이들을 불신자로 키우도록 해서도 안됨. 요즈음 비무슬림을 무슬림 국가에 노동자로 데려와 근로자, 운전기사, 하인, 유모 등으로 가정에 고용하는 일이 많아지고 있음.

Neither should we send our children to kaafir schools, missionary institutions and evil colleges and universities, or make them live with kaafir families.

뿐만 아니라 무슬림 아이들을 불신자들의 사악한 학교나 선교단체, 대학에 보내지 말아야 하며, 불신자 가정에서 자라게 하는 일도 없도록 해야 함

11. Imitating the kaafirs in dress, appearance, speech, etc., because this indicates love of the person or people imitated. The Prophet said: “I disown the one who stays among mushikeen.”

불신자의 의복, 외모, 말투 등을 모방하는 행위. 모방한다는 것은 그들을 사랑한다는 의미임. 마호메트는 ‘불신자들과 사는 사람은 나와 상관이 없다’라고 하였음

It is forbidden to imitate the kaffirs customs, habits and matters of outward appearance and conduct that are characteristic of them. This includes shaving the beard, letting the moustache grow long, and speaking their languages, except when necessary, as well as matters of clothing, food and drinks, etc.

불신자들의 의복이나 습관, 외모, 행위 등은 그들의 특성을 나타내므로, 모방해서는 안됨. 턱수염을 깎거나 콧수염이 길게 자라게 해서는 안됨. 또한 꼭 필요한 경우를 제외하고 의복이나 음식, 음료 뿐만 아니라 불신자들의 언어도 사용하지 말아야 함

12. Staying in their countries when there is no need to do so. Nobody will be excused for staying in a kaafir country except for those who are truly weak and oppressed and cannot migrate, or those who stay among them for the valid religious purpose such as da’wah and spreading Islam in their countries.

불필요하게 불신자들의 나라에 머무는 행위. 너무 병약하거나 탄압이 있어서 도저히 다른 나라로 이민 갈 방법이 없는 경우만 예외로 인정. 또는 해당 국가에서 이슬람을 전파하기 위한 종교적 목적(da’wah)으로 거주 가능. 하지만 이 두 경우 외에 불신자의 국가에 체류하는 것은 결코 용납할 수 없음

13. Praising them and their civilization and culture, defending them, and admiring their behavior and skills, without taking note of their false ideology and corrupt religion. Forsaking the Islamic calendar and using their calendar, especially since it reflects their rituals and festivals, as it is the case with the Gregorian(Western) calendar, which is connected to the supposed date of the birth of the Messiah(peace upon him), which is an innovation that they have fabricated and that has nothing to do with the religion of ‘Essa(Jesus)’. Using this calendar implies approval of their festivals and symbols.

불신자들의 문명과 문화를 추앙하거나 불신자들을 보호하는 행위. 불신자들의 잘못된 사상과 부패한 종교는 모른 체 하면서 그들의 행동양식과 기술을 높이 평가하는 행위. 특히 이슬람력이 아닌 서방 달력(기독교의 성일 및 축제가 표시된)을 사용하는 행위. 그레고리안 달력은 메시아 탄생 추정일과 연관되었다고 하지만, 실제 ‘예수’의 종교와는 무관한 것임. 이 달력을 사용하는 것은 그들의 축일과 종교적 상징을 인정한다는 의미임

14. Take part in their holidays and festivals, helping them to celebrate them, congratulating them on these occasions or attending places where such celebrations are held.

불신자들의 휴가나 축제에 참여하여 그들을 돕고 함께 축하하며 축하 행사가 열리는 곳에 참가하는 행위

15. Seek forgiveness for them and asking Allaah for mercy for them

불신자들을 위하여 알라의 자비와 용서를 구하는 행위

These examples should give a clear picture of what is meant by the prohibition of forming close friendship with kaafirs. We ask Allaah to keep our belief sound and our faith strong. And Allaah is the Source of Help.

이상과 같이 왜 무슬림과 비무슬림 간에 친분관계 조차 형성하면 안되는 이유를 분명히 알 수 있습니다. 알라께서 우리의 믿음을 견고히 하고 신앙을 강하게 해주기를 기도합니다. 알라는 우리 도움의 근원입니다.

Question: Is it allowed for Muslim woman to be friends with a non-Muslim woman who is very decent, without neglecting her one religion and is there a severe punishment if she does?

Answer: Undoubtedly making friends with kaafir woman will adversely affect her religious commitment, because a kaafir woman does not behave in the same manner or have the same attitude as a Muslim woman, and she does not worship Allaah according to the religion of Islam. Therefore she will not avoid doing things that may adversely affect this Muslim woman who may be deceived by the modest dress or good manners of this kaafir woman, especially in matters that will adversely affect her religious commitment.

불신자 여성과 무슬림 여성이 친구가 된다면, 이는 분명 무슬림 여성의 종교적 헌신을 퇴색시키는 결과를 낳게 될 것입니다. 왜냐하면 비무슬림 여성의 태도와 행동 양식은 무슬림 여성의 태도와 완전히 다르기 때문입니다. 또한 비무슬림 여성은 이슬람 종교에 따라 알라를 경배하지도 않습니다. 따라서 비무슬림 여성의 이러한 행위는 그들의 세련된 의복이나 매너로 무슬림 여성을 감동시키면서 무슬림 여성의 종교적 헌신을 흐릴 수 있습니다.

Similarly, making friends with her may lead to some kind of approval in one’s heart for the rituals that she does as part of her one religion, and this will weaken the sense of friendship and enmity for the sake of Allaah(al-wala wa’l-bara’)

이와 마찬가지로, 비무슬림과 친구가 된다는 것은 비무슬림이 지키고 있는 종교적 의례와 축제 같은 것을 인정한다는 의미이기도 하기 때문에, 알라와의 친밀함을 저해시키고 이교도에 대한 적대감도 희석시킬 우려가 있습니다. (al-wala wa’l-bara’)

Indeed it may lead some ignorant people to disapprove the ruling of Allaah that the kaafirs are disbelivers who will abide in Hell forever- we seek refuge with Allaah. Hence the Prophet said “Do not keep company with anyone but a believer and do not let anyone eat your food but one who is pious”(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2395; Abu Dawood, 4832; classed as saheeh by Ibn Hibbaan, 2/314; classed as hasan by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 7341)

그러다가 결국 어리석은 자들은 불신자들이 영원히 지옥에 거하게 될 것이라는 알라의 가르침에 반대하게 될 것입니다. 우리는 알라 안에서 평안을 찾습니다. 이 때문에 선지자 마호메트는 ‘무슬림이 아닌 사람과는 결코 친구가 되지 말 것이며, 함께 식사도 하지 말아야 한다”라고 말했습니다.(알 티르미디 2935, 아부 다우드 4832 낭독, 이븐 히반이 사히로 분류, 셰이크 알-아바니가 사히알자미에서 하산으로 분류)

We do not mean, however, that this Muslim woman should cut herself off completely from the kaafir woman; she may visit with her, visit her when she is sick and give her gifts, but without forming emotional attachment or joining in their festivals and celebrations. And the Muslim woman should aim, in those visits and gift-giving, to call this kaafir woman to Islam.

그렇다고 해서, 무슬림 여성이 비무슬림 여성과 모든 관계를 끊어야 한다는 의미는 아닙니다. 비무슬림 여성이 많이 아픈 경우나, 그에게 선물을 주기 위해서 방문하는 경우는 괜찮습니다. 다만 정서적으로 친밀해지거나 이교도의 축제나 성일에 참석하는 것은 금지합니다. 그리고 무슬림 여성이 비무슬림 여성을 방문하여 선물을 전해주는 목적은 그 불신자 여성을 이슬람으로 초대하기 위해서라는 것을 잊지 마십시오.

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan said: There is nothing wrong with visiting kaafir in order to call them to Isam.

셰이크 살리 알 파우잔도 ‘이교도를 이슬람으로 개종하기 위해 방문하는 것은 아무런 문제도 없다’라고 말했습니다.

But visiting kaafir in order to have a good time with them is not permitted, because it is obligatory to hate them and shun them.

하지만 단지 즐거움과 재미를 위해서 불신자들을 방문하는 일은 엄하게 금지합니다. 왜냐하면 우리 무슬림들은 불신자들을 미워하고 그들을 멀리해야 할 의무가 있기 때문입니다.

Question: In His Book, Allaah says of the Christians “Verily, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the believers(Muslims) the Jews and those who are Al-Mushrikoon, and you will find the nearest in love to the believers(Muslims) those who say: ‘We are Christians’”[al-Maa’idah 5:82]

질문: 꾸란에서 알라는 기독교인들에 대하여 다음과 같이 말하였습니다. “그대는 믿는 신앙인들(무슬림)에게 대적하는 이들을 유대인과 이교도들 가운데서 발견하리라 또한 그대는 ‘우리는 기독교인들이요’ 라고 말하며 믿는 신앙인들(무슬림)에게 사랑을 표시하는 그들을 발견하리니(수라 5:82)”

It is well known that at present they are extremely hostile towards Islam. So what should our attitude be towards them? Is it permissible to curse them as we are allowed to curse Jews? This issue is confusing me a great deal.

요즘 시대에 기독교인들이 이슬람에 적대적이라는 사실은 잘 알려져 있습니다. 그렇다면 기독교인들을 어떻게 대해야 하는 것입니까? 유대인을 저주해도 되는 것처럼 기독교인을 저주하는 것도 무방합니까? 이 문제가 제게 큰 고민이 됩니다.

Answer: The praise mentioned in these verses should not cause any confusion regarding the Christians or make us refrain from cursing them. The description in the verse does not include all Christians, rather it refers to a group among them who responded to the truth and were not to arrogant to follow it. This is what is implied by the context of the versed asked about:

답변: 위의 구절 때문에 기독교인들에 대해서 저주를 하지 말아야 할지 고민할 필요는 전혀 없습니다. 왜냐하면 여기서 말하고 있는 기독교인들은 진리(이슬람)를 들었을 때 믿고 따르기로 결정한 겸손한 기독교인만을 지칭하기 때문입니다. 이것이 질문자가 궁금해하는 구절의 의미입니다.

“Verily, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the believers(Muslims) the Jews and those who are Al-Mushrikoon, and you will find the nearest in love to the believers(Muslims) those who say: ‘We are Christians’. That is because amongst them are priests and monks, and they are not proud.”

“그대는 믿는 신앙인들(무슬림)에게 대적하는 이들을 유대인과 이교도들 가운데서 발견하리라 또한 그대는 ‘우리는 기독교인들이요’ 라고 말하며 믿는 신앙인들(무슬림)에게 사랑을 표시하는 그들을 발견하리니 이는 오만하지 않은 성직자들과 배움에 열중하는 학자들이라”

These verses are speaking of some Christian people who, when they came to know the truth, became Muslim and declared their faith.

이 구절이 말하는 기독교인들은 원래는 기독교인이었으나, 진리(이슬람)을 알게 되었을 때, 무슬림으로 개종하기로 결정하고 이슬람 신앙을 고백한 사람들입니다.

The great scholar Ibn al-Qayyim said concerning these verses: what is meant is that the people described here, when they realized that he was the Messenger of Allaah according to the description that they had, they could not stop eyes from weeping or their hearts from hastening to believe.

위대한 학자인 이븐 알 카임은 위 수라에 대해 다음과 같이 설명하였습니다. ‘이 구절에서 말하는 사람들은 기독교인들 중에서, 기독교 전승대로 마호메트가 알라의 선지자라는 사실을 깨달았을 때, 하염없이 눈물을 흘리며 곧장 이슬람을 믿은 사람들을 의미한다’

With regard to cursing those among the Christians who do not believe in Muhammad, there is innumerable definitive evidence which points to that, such as the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim in their Saheehs from ‘Aa’ishah, which says that the Messenger of Allah said, during his final illness: “May Allaah curse the Jews and Christians, for they took graves of their Prophets as places of worship.” How can they be not cursed when Allah has described them in His Book as follows:

기독교인 중에 마호메트를 믿지 않는 사람들을 저주하는 문제에 대한 가르침은, 부카리(al-Bukhaari)에 나온 하디스나 아이샤(마호메트의 아내)의 사히에서 셀 수 없이 많이 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 알라의 선지자인 마호메트는 병상에서 “알라여 유대인과 기독교인을 저주하십시오. 그들은 선지자들의 무덤을 경배의 장소로 택했습니다.”라고 말했습니다. 알라는 기독교인들에 대해 다음과 같이 꾸란에 묘사하고 있는데, 어떻게 기독교인들이 저주받지 않을 수 있겠습니까?

Surely, they have disbelieved who say: ‘Allaah is the Messiah[‘Eesa(Jesus)], son of Maryam(Mary).’[알 Al-Maa’idah 5:72]

알라가 마리아 아들을 메시아라 말하니 그들은 분명 불신자들이라[마이다 5:72]

Surely, disbelievers are those who said: ‘Allaah is the third of the three(in a Trinity).’ [Al-Maa’idah 5:73]

알라가 셋 중의 하나라(삼위일체) 말하는 그들은 분명 불신자라[마이다 5:73]

And there are other texts which speak of their kufr(disbelief) and misguidance. Among the verses which speak of their ultimate destiny is the last of the verses in the passage referred to by the questioner, where Allaah says(Interpretation of the meaning):

그리고 기독교인들이 불신앙과 잘못된 길로 인도되었다고 말해주는 구절도 있습니다. 여기서 말하는 기독교인들의 궁극적인 운명에 대해서 질문자가 인용한 구절의 마지막에 나와있습니다. 다음은 알라가 남긴 말입니다.

But those who disbelieved and belied Our Ayaat(proofs, evidences, verses, lessens, signs, revelations, etc.), they shall be the dwellers of the (Hell) Fire[Al-Maa’idah 5:86]

그러나 말씀(증명, 증거, 구절, 교훈, 싸인, 계시 등)을 불신하고 거짓하는 자들은 지옥이 그들의 것이라[마이다 5:86]

The peace between few of the Arab Political leaders and the Jews are futile ineffective and legally invalid from the shari’ah point of view. It is inappropriate for any Muslim neither to take it as valid nor to implement any part of it except what is there forcefully and of a compulsion.

일부 아랍 정치 지도자들과 유대인 간의 평화라는 것은 완전히 무의미한 것으로, 샤리아(shari’ah) 관점에서 봤을 때도 법적인 근거가 전혀 없는 것입니다. 강압적인 경우를 제외하고는, 어떤 무슬림도 이에 유효성을 부여하거나 실행에 옮길 수 없습니다.

The proofs that these treaties are legally invalid, ineffective and non implement able(from shari’ah point of view) are:

These treaties stipulate the cessation of war between the Muslims and the Jews forever. That is an invalid proposition because the jihad that is against them is an obligation on every Muslim. It’s valid and its viability decreed to be effective until the day of judgment and it can’t be annulled from the laws of Allah by anyone. Whosoever believes that the jihad is nonexistent and attempts to nullify it, is a koffir and must be excommunicated as he would have denied the very core essentials of the religion.

평화조약은 무슬림과 유대인간에 영구한 휴전을 협정한 것입니다. 이러한 협정이 실효성이 없는 이유는 바로 유대인에 대해 성전(지하드)을 벌이는 것이 모든 무슬림들의 의무사항이기 때문입니다. 이 의무사항은 ‘심판의 날’이 도래할 때까지 지켜야 하는 것이며, 이 알라의 법은 어느 누구도 무효화할 수 없는 것입니다. 성전(지하드)이 실재하지 않으며 이를 무효화해야 한다고 주장하는 사람이 있다면, 그는 분명 불신자이며, 이슬람의 핵심 교리를 거부하였으므로 반드시 출교해야 합니다.

For (violent) jihad is valid and effective until the day of judgment substantiated by the Qu’ran, Sunnah and the l’jma. However, it’s permissible that the ceasefire agreement can be drawn for few years where it’s in the interest of the Muslims, without time specification.

꾸란, 순나(전승 규범), 이즈마(법원)는 심판의 날까지 성전(폭력행위, jihad)를 수행해야 한고 강조하고 있습니다. 하지만 만약 휴전하는 것이 무슬림에게 유리하다면, 구체적인 기한을 정하지 않은 채 휴전 협정을 체결할 수 있습니다.

Secondly the treaties stipulated that the parties would do their utmost to remove the factors causing(basis/ reasons behind) enmity, hostility, and all other directives of the shari’ah that may be fueling such enmity.

둘째로, 평화조약에서 양측이 상호간에 적대감을 일으키는 모든 요인과 이러한 적대감을 부추기는 샤리아의 지침들을 제거하는데 최선을 다하겠다고 약속했습니다.

This condition or pre-requisite is invalid because it contradicts the very nature of Islamic faith. For Islamic faith is based on the separation of Muslim and kaffir and that the kaffir is an enemy of Allah orever until he embraces Islam discarding his kufur, Allah has forbidden the believers from pleading any allegiance to the Kuffar or showing them any affection even if they were their fathers, brothers, children or kinsmen or their spouses as stated in sura 58:22.

이와 같은 협의나 전제조건은 이슬람의 기본신앙에 위배되는 것이기 때문에 결코 유효할 수 없습니다. 무슬림은 비무슬림과 완전히 다른 존재이며, 모든 불신자는 그가 자기 종교를 버리고 이슬람을 받아들이기 전까지는 영원히 알라의 원수라고 믿는 것이 이슬람 신앙이기 때문입니다. 그렇기 때문에 알라는 꾸란58:22에서 신앙인(무슬림)들에게 이교도와 어떠한 협정도 맺지 말라고 하였으며, 심지어 부모 형제, 친족, 배우자가 불신자일지라도 그들에게 어떠한 호의도 베풀지 말라고 명령하였습니다.

Question: What are Ruling on the call to unite all religions?

Answer: The Standing Committee on Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas has examined the questions which have been submitted to it and the opinions and articles published and broadcast in the media concerning the call to unite the three religions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity; and the call which stems from that, to build a mosque, a church and an synagogue in one place, on university campuses and in public squares; and the call to print the Qur’aan, Tawraat(Torah) and Injeel(Gospenl) in one volume, etc.; and the conferences, seminars and meetings on this topic which are being held in the east and in the west. After studying and pondering the matter, the Committee issues the following statement:

1. One of the basic principles of belief in Islam, on which all the Muslims are agreed(ijmaa’) is that there is no true religion on the face of the earth apart from Islam. It is the final religion which abrogates all religions and laws that came before it. There is no religion on earth according to which Allaah is to be worshipped apart from Islam. “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”[3:85]. After the coming of Muhammad, Islam means what he brought, not any other religion.

모든 무슬림이 동의하는(ijmaa’)이슬람의 기본 신앙원칙 중 하나는 이슬람 이외에 전세계에 어떠한 참된 종교도 없다는 것입니다. 이슬람교는 다른 모든 종교와 법률을 폐지시키는 최후의 종교입니다. 이슬람 이외에 알라를 경배할 수 있는 종교는 지구상에 없습니다. “이슬람 외에 다른 종교를 추구하는 자 결코 수락되지 않을 것이니 내세에서 패망자 가운데 있게 되리라”(3:85). 마호메트는 그 어떤 종교도 아닌 이슬람을 이 세상에 전파하였습니다.

2. One of the basic principles of belief in Islam is that the Book of Allaah, the Holy Qur’aan, is the last of the Books to be revealed from the Lord of the Worlds. It abrogates all the Books that came before it, the Tawraat, Zaboor, Injeel and others. So there is no longer any revealed Book according to which Allaah may be worshipped aprt from the Qur’aan.

둘째로, 또 다른 이슬람교 신앙 원칙으로, 알라의 책인 거룩한 꾸란이 알라가 이 세상에 계시한 마지막 책이라는 믿음이 있습니다. 꾸란은 이전에 있었던 구약(Tawraat: 토라), 시편(Zaboor), 신약(Injeel: Gospel)을 포함한 모든 책과 계시를 폐기하였습니다. 따라서 꾸란 이외에 알라를 경배하기 위하여 계시된 책은 더 이상 없습니다.

3. It is obligatory to believe that the Tawraat and Injeel have been abrogated by the Qur’aan, and that they have been altered and distorted, with things added and taken away,

꾸란에 의해 구약(Tawraat)과 신약(Injeel)이 무효화되었으며, 성경의 내용은 불필요한 것이 첨가되거나 원래 있던 것이 누락되었기에, 성경은 변질/왜곡되었다고 믿는 것이 무슬림들의 의무입니다.

“Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, “This is from Allaah,” to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby.”[al-Baqarah2:79]

“그들 스스로 그 성서를 써서 이것이 알라로부터 온 것이니 값싸게 사소서 라고 말하는 그들에게 재앙이 있을 것이며 그것을 쓴 그들의 손에도 재앙이 올 것이며 그로써 금전을 모으는 자들에게 큰 재앙이 있을 것이라[바까라2:79]

“And verily, among them is a party who distort the Book with their tongues(as they read), so that you may think it is from the Book, but it is not from the Book, and they say: “This is rom Allaah,” but it is not from Allaah; and they speak a lie against Allaah while they know it”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:78]

“그들 중에는 그들의 혀로 그 성서를 왜곡하여 그것이 성서의 일부라고 너희들로 하여금 믿게 하려는 무리가 있으나 그것은 성서의 일부가 아니라 그들은 또 그것은 알라로부터 온 것이 아니거늘 그들은 잘 알고 있으면서 알라에 대해 거짓말을 하더라[이므란3:78]”

Hence, whatever in the previous books was correct is abrogated by Islam, and everything else is distorted and changed

따라서, 아무리 과거의 성경 계시들이 옳았다고 할지라도, 이제는 모두 왜곡되고 변질되었을 뿐입니다.

4. One of the basic principles of belief in Islam is that we must believe that every Jew, Chrisitan or other person who does not enter Islam is a kaafir, and that those against whom proof is established must be named as kaafirs and regarded as enemies of Allaah, His Messenger and the believers, and that they are the people of Hell,

이슬람의 기본 신앙원칙 중 하나는, 모든 유대인과 기독교인, 그리고 이슬람을 믿지 않는 모든 사람은 불신자이며, 따라서 알라와 알라의 선지자, 무슬림의 대적이며, 모든 불신자가 지옥의 사람들이라는 사실을 믿는 것입니다.

5. In the light of these basic principles of belief and the rulings of sharee’ah, calling for the uniting of all religions, and for them to be brought close to one another and cast in the same mould, is an evil and crafty call whose aim is to mix truth with falsehood, to destroy Islam and undermine its pillars, and to tempt its followers into total apostasy.

이러한 신앙과 샤리아 규칙의 관점에서 봤을 때, 모든 종교를 하나로 통일하기 위해 같은 틀에 집어 넣고 상호 호의를 높이겠다고 하는 것은 매우 악한 행위입니다. 이는 진리와 거짓을 한데 섞으려는 것과 마찬가지이고, 이슬람을 파괴하고 그 기둥을 파괴하여서 모든 무슬림을 배교자로 만들려는 행위입니다.

6. Among the effects of this evil call would be the cancelling out of the differences between Islam and kuffar, truth and falsehood, good and evil. It would break down the psychological barrier that exists between the Muslims and the kaafirs, and there would be no sense of al-Walaa’ wa’l Baraa’(loyalty and friendship towards Muslims, disavowal and enmity towards kaafirs), or jihad and fighting to make the word of Allaah supreme in the earth of Allaah.

이와 같은 나쁜 시도로 인해 이슬람과 이교도, 진리와 거짓, 선과 악 사이의 경계를 흐리는 부작용을 초래할 수 있습니다. 또한 무슬림과 이교도 사이에 존재하는 정신적 장벽을 붕괴시킬 수도 있으며, 무슬림에 대해서는 충성과 호의를 베풀고, 이교도에 대해서는 적대감을 갖으라는 ‘알왈라 와알바라’(al-Walaa’ wa’l Baraa) 정신이나 이 세상이 알라의 말씀으로 지배될 때까지 계속해야 하는 지하드와 전쟁에 대한 투지를 흐릴 수도 있습니다.

“Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allaah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allaah and His Messenger(Muhammad), (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth(i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture(Jews and Christians) until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued”[al-Towbak9:29]

“하나님과 내세를 믿지 아니하며 하나님과 선지자가 금기한 것을 지키지 아니하고 진리의 종교를 따르지 아니한 자들에게 비록 그들이 성서의 백성이라 하더라도 항복하여 인두세를 지불할 때까지 성전하라 그들은 스스로 저주스러움을 느끼리라 [타우바9:29]”

“and fight against the Mushrikoon(pholytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah) collectively as they fight against you collectively. But know that Allaah is with those who are Al-Muttaqoon(the pious)”[al-Tawbah 9:36]

“그들이 너희들 모두에게 투쟁하듯 모든 불신자들(무슈리쿤: 다신론자, 이교도, 우상숭배자, 알라의 유일성을 믿지 않는 자)에게 성전하라 실로 알라는 정의로운 자들과 함께 하시니라[타우바9:36]

“O you who believe! Take not as (your) Bitaanah(adivisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends) those outside our religion(pagans, Jews, Christians, and hypocrities) since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to har you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceale is far worse. Indeed we have made plain to you that Ayaat(proofs, evidences, verses) if you understand”[Aal ‘Immran3:118]

“믿는 자들이여 불신자들(이교도, 유대인, 기독교인, 위선자)을 친구(조언자, 상담자, 보호자, 조력자, 친구)로 택하지 말라 그들은 너희를 해치기 위해 노력을 아끼지 아니하며 그들은 단지 너희가 파괴되기를 바랄 뿐이라 그들의 입들에서 증오가 발산되며 그들의 마음은 더욱 사악하도다 알라는 너희에게 그 말씀을 설명했나니 지혜가 있다면 알게 될 것이라”[이므란3:118]

7. If the call to unite the religions is made by a Muslim, this considered to be blatant apostasy from the religion of Islam, because it conflicts with the basic principles of belief. It is an acceptance of disbelief in Allaah and a contradiction of the truth of the Qur’aan and its abrogation of all laws and religions that came before it. On this basis, it is an idea that should be rejected from the point of view of sharee’ah, and it is definitely haraam according to the evidence of Islam, Qur’aan, Sunnah and ijmaa’(scholarly consensus).

만약 무슬림이 종교간의 연합을 요구한다면, 이 무슬림은 아주 명백한 이슬람 배교자입니다. 왜냐하면 이 같은 요구는 이슬람 신앙의 기본 원칙에 위배되기 때문입니다. 알라를 부정하는 불신앙을 용인하는 것이며, 꾸란의 진리에도 위배되는 일이며, 종교와 모든 규범을 폐기하는 것과 마찬가지입니다. 따라서 샤리아 관점에서 봤을 때 이러한 요구 당연히 무시해야 하며, 이슬람교와 꾸란, 순나 및 이즈마(학문적 의견일치)의 증거에 따라 명백하게 금지해야 하는 것입니다.

8. Based on the above: 위에 근거하여

i. It is not permissible for a Muslim who believes in Allaah as his Lord, Islam as his religion and Muhammad as his Prophet and Messenger, to call people to this evil idea, to encourage it or to propagate it among the Muslims, let alone respond to it or join the conferences and gatherings held to promote it.

알라를 신으로, 마호메트를 알라의 선지자이자 메신저로 인정하는 무슬림이라면, 다른 무슬림들에게 이 악한 생각을 전파하거나, 악한 행동을 부추길 수 없습니다. 그냥 혼자만 이러한 행사에 참가하고 말아야 할 것입니다.

ii. It is not permissible for a Muslim to print the Tawraat and Injeel on their own, so how about printing them with the Qur’aan in one volume? Whoever does this or calls for it is far astray, because by doing so he is combining truth(the Qur’aan) with that which is either distorted or was true but has now been abrogated(the Tawraat and Injeel).

또한 무슬림들은 구약이나 신약을 직접 인쇄할 수 없습니다. 따라서 꾸란과 성경책을 함께 인쇄한다는 것이 어떻게 가능하겠습니까? 꾸란과 성경을 함께 인쇄하는 것은, 한때는 건전했지만 이제 완전이 왜곡/변질된 것(성경)을 진리(꾸란)에 섞어버리는 배교자의 행위입니다.

iii. Similarly, it is not permissible for a Muslim to respond to the call to build a mosque, church and synagogue in one place, because this involves recognizing a religion in which Allaah is worshipped other than Islam, and rejecting the idea that Islam should prevail over all other religions, and giving the idea that there are three religions and that is OK for people to belong to any of these three. This is a kind of equality which implies that Islam does not abrogate the religions that came before it. Undoubtedly, if a person approves of this, believes it or accepts it, this is kufr and misguidance, because it clearly goes against the Qur’aan, the Sunna and the concensus(ijmaa’) of the Muslims and implies that the distortions of the Jews and Christians come from Allaah-exalted be He far above that. By the same token, it is not permitted to call churches “Houses of God” or to say that the people there are worshipping Allaah in a correct and acceptable manner, because this worship is not done according to the religion of Islam. On the contrary, there are houses in which disbelief(kufr) in Allaah is expressed; we seek refuge with Allaah from kufr and its people. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawaa(22/162): “They-churches and synagogues- are not houses of Allaahl houses of Allaah are the mosques. On the contrary, they are houses in which disbelief(kufr) in Allaah is expressed. Even if Allaah is mentioned therein, houses are the same as the people in them, and the people in these houses are kuffaar, so they are the houses of worship of the kuffaar.”

마찬가지로, 한 지역에 모스크와 교회, 유대회당을 짓자는 요청도 무슬림은 받아들일 수 없습니다. 왜냐하면 이러한 생각은 이슬람교 밖에서도 알라를 섬길 수 있다는 사상을 받아들이는 것으로, 이는 이슬람교가 모든 종교를 지배해야 한다는 사상에 위배되는 것이고, 세가지 중 어느 종교를 선택해도 무관하다는 인상을 사람들에게 주기 때문입니다. 다시 말해 이슬람이 이전의 모든 종교들을 폐기한다는 사상에 배치되는 평등주의와 같은 것입니다. 이런 생각에 동조하는 사람이 있다면, 그는 분명히 불신자이며 잘못된 길로 인도된 사람입니다. 왜냐하면 이러한 사상은 꾸란과 순나, 그리고 무슬림들의 합의(ijmaa’)에 정면으로 배치되는 것이며, 유대인과 기독교인들이 왜곡된 것이 알라의 뜻에 의한 것이라는 의미가 되기 때문입니다. 이와 동일하게, 교회를 ‘알라의 성전’이라고 불러서도 안됩니다. 또한 교회에 있는 사람들이 올바른 방법으로 알라를 섬긴다고 말해서도 안됩니다. 교회의 예배는 이슬람의 예배와 완전히 다르기 때문입니다. 오히려 교회는 알라에 대한 불신앙을 표현하는 곳입니다. 우리는 이러한 불신앙과 불신자들로부터 벗어나 알라의 보호를 받기 기대합니다. 셰이크 알 이슬람 이븐 타이미야(알라여 자비를 베푸소서)는 마즈무 알파타와(Majmoo al-Fataawaa(22/162))에서 “교회와 유대회당은 알라의 집이 아니다. 알라의 집은 모스크일 뿐이다. 교회와 유대 회당은 알라에 대한 불신을 표현하는 곳이며, 만약 그 안에서 알라를 말한다 할지라도, 집과 그 안의 사람은 같기 때문에, 불신자들이 예배를 드리는 것에 불과하다”라고 말하였습니다.

9. It should be noted that is obligatory on the Muslims to call the kuffaar in general, and the People of the Book in particular, to Islam through the clear texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah. But this is only to be done by explaining to them and arguing with them in a way that is better(with good words and in a good manner) (cf. Al-‘Anakaboot 29:46), not by compromising any of the beliefs of laws of Islam. This is in order to convince them about Islam and bring them into the religion, or to establish proof against them so that those who are to be destroyed (for their rejecting the Faith) might be destroyed after a clear evidence, and those who are to live(i.e. believers) might live after a clear evidence

모든 무슬림들은 모든 불신자들, 특별히 성서의 백성들(유대인과 기독교인)에게 꾸란과 순나에 나온 분명한 문구를 이용하여 이슬람으로 전도해야 할 의무가 있다는 사실을 기억해야 합니다. 그러나 전도할 때 좋은 말과 예의를 갖춰 이슬람을 설명하고 논쟁할 수는 있지만(아나카붓 29:46), 절대로 이슬람교 신앙의 법칙과 불신앙 사이에서 타협해서는 안됩니다. 이렇게 해야 불신자들이 이슬람을 확신하고 받아들일 수 있게 됩니다. 또 분명한 설명을 받고도 신앙을 거부한 자들이 마지막 때 멸망할만한 확실한 증거를 갖게 되며, 이슬람교를 믿기로 한 사람들도 그 분명한 증거를 갖게 됩니다.

“Say(O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture(Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allaah(Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah. Then, if they turn away, say:”Bear witness that we are Muslims.”[Aal ‘Omraan 3:64]

성서의 백성들(유대인과 기독교인)이여 우리들이나 너희들을 막론하고 하나의 말씀으로 오라 하여 알라 외에는 다른 신을 경배하지 아니하고 그 무엇도 알라와 비유하지 아니하며 우리 가운데 어느 누구도 알라 외에 다른 것을 알라와 비교하지 말라 이르되 만일 그들이 배반한다면 실로 우리는 알라의 유일성을 믿는 무슬림임을 지켜보라 말하라[이므란 3:64]

The Committee has made the above statement to the people. We advise the Muslims in general, and people of knowledge in particular, to fear Allaah and be aware that He is always watching, to guard Islam and to protect the ‘aqeedah(belief) of the Muslims from misguidance and those who promote it and from kufr and its people, and to beware of this idea.

상임위원회는 위와 같이 선언문을 작성하였습니다. 모든 무슬림들과 조금이라도 지식이 있는 사람들이라면 알라를 두려워하고, 알라가 항상 이슬람을 살피며 무슬림들이(aqeedah) 잘못된 불신자의 길로 빠지지 않도록 보호한다는 사실을 기억하시기 바랍니다.

Question: I have been advised by several Muslims who are knowledgeable in Islam against living in a kaffir country(America). I am an American/Arab who has lived in America all my life but for a few months now was living in Arabic country, however things are getting hard for me to continue to living here(lack of income, housing, etc) and am considering going back to America, also another strong reason is that the Health care system is better and free for my wife who is ill. Please give me as much a detailed answer from the Hadith and Quran as you can as I don’t know for sure if I should strive to continue living here or go back to America regarding Islam.

질문: 저는 이슬람교를 믿는 무슬림으로부터 이교도의 나라(미국)에서 살지 말라는 충고를 받아왔습니다. 저는 평생을 미국에서 살아온 아랍계미국인이지만, 몇 개월 전부터 아랍국가에 살고 있습니다. 하지만 수입부족과 주택 문제 등 때문에 이곳에서 살아가는 일이 점점 더 어려워지고 있습니다. 그래서 미국으로 돌아 갈 것인지 고민 중입니다. 그리고 역이민을 생각하는 또 하나 중요한 이유는 의료보장 시스템 때문입니다. 투병 중인 제 아내가 미국에서는 무료로 훨씬 좋은 치료를 받을 수 있기 때문입니다. 미국으로 돌아가야 할지, 계속 아랍국가에서 살아야 할지 저로서는 잘 판단할 수가 없으니, 하디스와 꾸란에 나타난 바른 해답을 가능한 자세히 설명해주시기 바랍니다.

Answer: The basic principle is that it is haraam to settle among the mushikeen and in their land. If Allaah makes it easy for a person to move from such a country to a Muslim country, then he should not prefer that which is inferior[i.e. living in a non-Muslim country] to that which is better[living in a Muslim country] unless he has an excuse which permits him to go back.

답변: 무슬림이 이교도의 나라에 거주하는 것은 원칙적으로 금지되어 있습니다. 만약 알라가 비무슬림 국가에서 무슬림 국가로 이주할 여건을 만들어 주었다면, 부득이한 사유가 있는 경우를 제외하고 무슬림은 결코 우등한 것(무슬림 국가에 사는 것)보다 열등한 것(비무슬림 국가에서 사는 것)을 선호해서는 안됩니다.

We advise you, as others have, not to go and live in a kaafir country, unless you are forced to go there temporarily, such as seeking medical treatment that is not readily available in a Muslim country.

우리 위원회도 다른 무슬림들과 같이 이교도의 나라에서 살지 말라고 충고하고 싶습니다. 하지만 무슬림 국가에서는 치료가 불가능하기 때문에 어쩔 수 없이 치료를 위해 임시로 비무슬림 국가를 방문하는 경우는 예외로 할 수 있습니다.

Note that whoever gives up a thing for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better, and that with hardship comes ease, and that whosoever fears Allaah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out(from every difficulty), and He will provide him from(sources) he never could imagine. You should also note that preserving one’s capital is better that taking a risk in the hope of making a profit; the Muslim’s capital is his religion, and he should not risk it for the sake of some transient worldly gain.

누구든지 알라를 위하여 자기의 것을 포기한다면, 알라가 더 좋은 것으로 보상하여 준다는 것을 기억하십시오. 고난도 점차 사라질 것입니다. 누구든지 알라를 두려워하고 알라에 대한 의무를 다한다면, 알라는 이 사람이 어려움에서 나올 수 있는 길을 열어 주고, 결코 상상하지 못했던 것으로 보답하여 줄 것입니다. 또한 수익을 기대하며 위험을 감수하는 것보다는 자본을 잘 보존하는 것이 더 바람직하다는 사실도 기억하십시오. 무슬림에게 자본은 신앙입니다, 결코 이 세상의 무상한 이득을 얻기 위해서 신앙을 걸고 모험을 해서는 안됩니다.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen(may Allaah have mercy on him) issued a detailed fatwa concerning the issue of settling in a kaafir country, which we will quote here.

셰이크 이븐 우타이민(그에게 알라의 자비가 임하기를)은 비무슬림 국가에 거주하는 문제에 관해 다음과 같은 파트와를 발표하였습니다.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: Setting in a kaafir country poses a great danger to the Muslim’s religious commitment, morals, behavior and etiquette. We and others have seen how many of those who settled there went astray and came back different from when they went; they have come back as evildoers, and some have come back having apostatized from their religion and disbelieving in it and in all other religions- we seek refuge with Allaah- denying it completely and mocking the religion and its people, past and present. Hence we must take measures to guard against that and stipulate conditions which will prevent people from following this path which leads doom and destruction.

셰이크 이븐 우타이민은 다음과 같이 말하였습니다. 비무슬림 국가에서 산다는 것은 무슬림 신자의 종교적 헌신, 도덕, 행위와 예절을 지키는 일에 중대한 위협이 됩니다. 우리는 비무슬림 국가에 살던 많은 무슬림 신자들이 어떻게 변질되었으며, 그곳에 갈 때와는 전혀 다른 모습으로 돌아온 것을 많이 보아왔습니다. 그들은 행악자가 되었으며, 신앙을 버린 채 다른 신앙인들, 또 과거와 현재를 비웃기도 했습니다. 따라서 무슬림 신자들이 이러한 비극적인 운명에 처하지 않도록 철저히 방지할 수 있는 규정과 조항을 만들어야 합니다.

These are two basic conditions which must be met before staying in kaafir countires:

무슬림이 비무슬림 국가에 머무르기 위해서는 먼저 다음의 두가지 요건을 충족시켜야 합니다.

The first condition is : that the person must be secure in his religious commitment, so that he has enough knowledge, faith and will power to ensure that he will adhere firmly to his religion and beware of deviating or going astray, and that he has an attitude of enmity and hatred of the kaafirs and will not befriend them and love them, for befriending them and loving them are things that contradicts faith. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “You(O Muhammad) will find any people who believe in Allaah and the Last day, making friendship with those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger(Muhammad), even though they were their sons or their brothers or their kindred(people)”[al-Mujaadilah 58:22]

먼저, 확실하게 종교 헌신을 한 자로써, 충분한 지식과 믿음, 또한 힘을 가지고 견고하게 신앙을 지키고, 배교하거나 잘못된 길로 들어가지 않을 수 있는 사람이어야 합니다. 또한 불신자에 대한 증오심과 적대감을 지켜서 절대로 불신자들을 사랑하거나 그들과 친분을 맺어서는 안됩니다. 왜냐하면 불신자들을 사랑하고 그들과 친구가 되는 것은 이슬람 신앙에 위배되는 것이기 때문입니다. 알라는 꾸란의 무자달라에서 다음과 같이 말하였습니다: “그대는 하나님과 내세를 믿는 자들이 자신의 아버지이던 아들이던 또는 형제들이나 친척들이던 그들이 알라와 그분의 선지자에게 거역하는 것을 발견치 못하리라”[무자딜라 58:22]

And He says: “On you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’(friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon(polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust). And you guides not those people who are the disease (of hypocrisy), they hurry to their friendship, saying: ‘We fear lest some misfortune of a disaster may befall us.’ Perhaps Allaah may bring a victory or a decision according to His Will. Then they will become regretful for what they have been keeping as a secret in themselves.”[al-Maah’ida 5:51]

또한 이렇게 기록되어 있습니다. : “믿는 자들이여 유대인과 기독교인들을 친구로 그리고 보호자로써 택하지 말라 그들은 서로가 친구들이라 그들에게로 향하는 너희가 있다면 그는 그 무리의 일원이거늘 알라는 이 우매한 백성들을 인도하지 아니하시리라” [마이다 5:51]

And it was narrated in al-Saheeh that the Prophet said: “whoever loves a people is one of them” and that “A man will be with the one whom he loves.”

사히에는 “사람은 자기가 사랑하는 사람들과 같은 사람이다”, “사람은 자기가 사랑하는 사람과 함께 있게 된다”라고 기록되어 있습니다.

Loving the enemies of Allaah is one of the most serious dangers for the Muslim, because loving them implies that one agrees with them and follows them, or at the very least that one does not denounce them, hence the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Whoever loves a people is one of them.”

알라의 원수를 사랑하는 행위는 무슬림에게 있어서 가장 위험한 일입니다. 왜냐하면 원수들을 사랑하게 되면, 그들의 의견에 동조하고, 그들을 따라가게 되기 때문입니다. 그 정도는 아니더라도 최소한 원수를 비난하는 일은 하지 않게 됩니다. 따라서 선지자 마호메트(알라의 평화와 축복이 임하길)는 “사람은 자기가 사랑하는 사람들 중 하나이다”라고 말한 것입니다.

The second condition is that he should be able to practice his religion openly, so that he can observe the rituals of Islam with no impediment. So he will not be prevented from establishing regular prayer, and praying Jumu’ah and offering prayers in congregation if there are others there with whom he can pray in congregation and pray Jum’ah; and he will not be prevented from paying zakaah, fasting, performing Hajj and doing other rituals of Islam. If he will not be able to do that then it is not permissible to stay there because it becomes obligatory to migrate (hijrah) in that case.

셰이크 이븐 우타이민은 비무슬림 국가에서 살 수 있는 네가지 경우를 설명해주었습니다.

The fourth category includes those who stay for an individual, permissible need, such as doing business or receiving medical treatment. It is permissible for them to stay as long as they need to. The scholars(may Allaah have mercy on them) have stated that it is permissible to go to kaafir countries in order to do business, and they narrated that some of the Sahaabah(may Allaah be pleased with them) had done that.

우선 사업이나 치료를 받기 위한 개인적인 목적이 있을 때 비무슬림 국가에 체류할 수 있습니다. 이 경우에는 필요할 때까지 체류가 가능합니다. 학자(알라의 자비가 임하길)들은 사업적인 목적으로 비무슬림 국가에 갈 수 있다고 입장을 밝혔으며, 사하바(예언자의 친구들: 알라의 기쁨이 되길) 또한 그러한 예가 있었다고 설명하였습니다.

They Shaykh said [at the end of the fatwa]: how can the believer be content to live in the land of the kuffaar where the rituals of kufr are proclaimed openly and rule belongs to someone other than Allaah and His Messenger, seeing that with his own eyes, hearing that with his own ears and approving of it, and even starting to feel that he belongs there and living there with his wife and children, and feeling as comfortable there as he does in the Muslim lands, even though he and his wife and children are in such great danger and their religious commitment and morals are in such peril?

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And they will never cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion(Islamic Monotheism) if they can. And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his deeds will be lost in this life and in the Hereafter, and they will be the dwellers of the Fire. They will abide therein forever”[al-Baqarah 2:17]

Because Islam rules the believers with justice, and gives each person his rights, and they do not want this to happen – for this reason they strive to wage war against this religion and to refute the truth with falsehood. But they can never achieve that, for this religion will abide, and Allaah will perfect His light, even though the kaafiroon hate that.

불신자들이 이슬람교를 반대하는 이유는, 이슬람교는 믿는 자들을 정의로 다스리며 개인의 권리를 인정하기 때문입니다. 그래서 이슬람에 반대하는 전쟁을 일으키고 거짓된 논리로 진리를 부정하는 것입니다. 하지만, 불신자들은 결코 그 목표를 달성할 수 없습니다. 왜냐하면 이슬람교는 계속될 것이며, 불신자들의 증오에도 불구하고 알라가 그 빛을 완전하게 할 것이기 때문입니다.

The kuffaar want all the nations of this earth to follow kufr as one: “they wish that you reject faith, as they have rejected(Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another)” [al-Nissa’ 4:89]

모든 불신자들은 지구상의 모든 국가가 불신앙의 길을 따르기 고대하고 있습니다. “그들이 그랬듯이 너희도 불신자가 되기를 원하며 너희가 그들과 같이 되기를 바라거늘”[니싸아 4:89]

Allaah has told us how strong the enmity of the kuffaar is towards the Muslims:

또 알라는 불신자들이 무슬림들에게 얼마나 강한 적대감을 갖고 있는지 가르쳐 주었습니다

“Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture(Jews and Christians) or Al-Mushikoon(the idolaters, polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah, pagans) like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allaah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills. And Allaah is the Owner of Great Bounty.” [al-Baqarah 2:105]

“성서의 백성들 가운데 믿음이 없는 자들이나 불신자들은 그들 주님으로부터 너희들 위에 복음이 계시되는 것을 좋아하지 않으나 알라께서는 그분의 뜻에 따라 그분이 선택하여 자비를 베푸시니 알라의 은총은 충만하심이라”[바까라 2:105]

No matter what the kuffaar do, their enmity will not end. Even though they may speak words of friendship, their hearts are filled with hatred towards Islam and its people:

불신자들이 무슨 일을 하든, 그들의 적대감은 결코 끝나지 않을 것입니다. 불신자들이 입으로는 우정을 말한다 할지라도, 그들의 마음은 이슬람과 무슬림에 대한 증오로 가득 차 있습니다.

“How (can there be such a covenant with them) that when you are overpowered by them, they regard not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant with you? With (good words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are Faasiqoon(rebellious, disobedient to Allaah)” [al-Tawbah 9:8]

“어떻게 그러한 조약이 있을 수 있느뇨 그들이 너희보다 이로운 위치에 있을 때 그들은 너희와의 조약을 존중치 아니하며 그들의 입으로만 너희를 기쁘게 하는 듯 하나 그들의 마음은 거절하고 있도다 실로 그들 대다수는 사악함이라”[타우바 9”8]

The People of the Book disbelieve in the verses of Allaah, and mix truth with falsehood. They conceal the truth and plot against Islam, in order to divert the Muslims from their religion.

성서의 백성들(유대인과 기독교인)은 알라에 대한 성경 구절을 믿지 않고, 진리 속에 거짓을 섞은 사람들입니다. 진리를 외면한 채, 이슬람에 대적하여 무슬림들이 이슬람을 버리도록 조장하고 있습니다.

All of the Kuffaar, be they the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), mushrikeen(polytheists) or hypocrites, are the enemies of the Muslims, so it is not permissible to depend upon them or to rely on them.

성서의 백성들(유대인과 기독교인)이나 다신론자, 위선자를 막론하고 모든 불신자들은 우리 무슬림들의 원수이기 때문에, 무슨 일이든 불신자들에게 의존해서는 안됩니다.

Allaah says: “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Awliyaa;(supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that, will never be helped by Allaah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allaah warns you against Himself(His punishment), and to Allaah is the final return”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:28]

알라는 “신앙인들은 불신자들을 신앙인들에 우선하여 친구로 택하지 아니하도다 그렇게 하는 자 있다면 알라께 대한 믿음이 조금도 없나니 항상 경계하여 그들로부터 너희 자신을 보호하는 길밖엔 없노라 알라는 너희로 하여금 그분을 기억케 하여 주시니 최후의 목적은 알라께로 가니라”라고 이므란 3:28에서 말하였습니다.

Allaah has warned us against taking the Jews and Christians as friends, and He told us that whoever takes them as friends is one of them. “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’(friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst yu takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon(polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)”[al-Maaidah 5:51]

All of the kuffaar, be they the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) mushirikeen(polytheists) or hypocrites, will be in Hell on the Day of Resurrection,

모든 불신자들은, 그들이 성서의 백성(유대인과 기독교인)이든지 다신론자이든지 위선자이든지 관계없이 모두 부활의 날에 모두 지옥에 있게 될 것입니다.

“Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur’aan and Prophet Muhammad) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushirkoon will abide in the fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures”[al-Bayyinah 98:6] The kuffaar and the Jews are the greediest of mankind for life, because they know that they have no share in the Hereafter. They hate death because they fear what comes after it, as Allaah tells us about the Jews and mushrikeen “And verily, you will find them (the Jews) the greediest of mankind for life and (Even greedier) than those who ascribe partners to Allaah (and do not believe in Resurrection – Magians, pagans, and idolaters). Everyone of them wishes that he could be given a life of a thousand years. But the grant of such life will not save him even a little from (due) punishment. And Allaah is All-Seer of what they do”[al-Baqarah 2:96’,

Answer it is not permissible for a Muslim to eat things that the Jews and Christians make on their festivals, or what they give him as a gift on their festivals, because that is cooperating with them and joining in with them in this evil.

It is not permissible or him to congratulate them on their festivals in any way whosoever, because that implies approval of their festival and not denouncing them, and helping them to manifest their symbols and propagate their innovation, and sharing their happiness during their festivals, which are innovated festivals that are connected to false beliefs that are not approved of in Islam.

Answer: The ruling of Islam concerning other religions is that they are all either fabricated and false, or abrogated.

The fabricated and false religions are those like the ancient Arabian practice of worshipping idols and stones.

The abrogated religions are those which were taught by the Prophets who came before our Prophet Muhammad. They are valid in that their origins are from Allaah, but Islam came and took their place, not with regard to basic beliefs such as the existence of God, the angels, Paradise and Hell, for these are matters which all the Messengers have in common, but there are differences between them with regard to ways of worshipping and drawing close to Allaah by means of prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, alms, etc. The later followers of the Prophets have fallen into deviations of belief and shirk, but Islam came to point that out and bring people to the correct belief taught by the earlier Prophets.

The evidence or that is the verse in which Allaah says “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

이 증거는 이므란3:85에 기록되어 있습니다. “이슬람 외에 다른 종교를 추구하는 자 결코 수락되지 않을 것이니 내세에서 패망자 가운데 있게 되리라”

Islam does not regard them (followers of other religions) only as sinners, but as kaafirs(disbelievers) who will abide forever in the Fire of Hell, as stated in the verses quoted above.

이슬람에서는 이 사람들을(타종교 신자)들을 단지 죄인이라고 말하는 것이 아니라 불신자(kaafir), 즉 위의 꾸란에서 말한 것처럼 영원히 지옥 불에서 살게 될 불신자라고 말합니다.

He(the kaafir) will be a loser in Hell, and will not come of out it. It is not possible for a kaafir to enter Paradise unless he becomes Muslim.

Question: What are the actions which, if a Muslim does them, he will be an apostate from Islam?

Answer: Note that Allaah has commanded all people to enter Islam and to adhere to it and to beware of whatever is contrary to it. He sent His Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to call mankind to that. He tells us that those who follow him will be guided and that those who turn away from him have gone astray. In many verses He warns against the means that lead to apostasy and all forms of shirk and kufr. The scholars(may Allaah have mercy on them) have said, when discussing apostasy, that a Muslim may apostatize from his religion by doing many acts that nullify Islam, which makes it permissible to shed his blood and seize his wealth, and which will put him beyond the pale of Islam. Among the most serious and most common of these things are ten which were mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab and other scolars (may Allaah have mercy on them all). We will mention them in brief here, so that you and others can beware of them, in the hope that you will be safe and sound. We will also explain a little about them after mentioning each one.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning)” “Verily, Allaah forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners (in worship) with Him, but He forgives whom He wills, sins other than that, and whoever sets up partners in worship with Allaah, has indeed strayed far away” [al-Nisa’ 4:116]

신성 모독, 또는 알라를 다른 것에 비유하는 행위. 알라는 “실로 알라는 그분에 비유하는 자를 용서하지 아니하시리라 그러나 그외에는 원하는 자마다 용서를 하시나 알라에 비유하는 자는 멀리서 방황하니라”[니싸아 4:116]라고 말하였습니다.

2. Whoever sets up intermediaries between himself and Allaah, asks them to intercede, and puts his trust in them, is a kaafir according to the scholarly consensus.

자기와 알라 사이에 중재자를 두고, 중재자에게 도움을 요청하고 중재자에게 자기 믿음을 주는 사람은 불신자라고 학자들이 합의하였습니다.

3. Whoever does not regard the mushrikeen as kaafirs, or doubts that they are kaafirs, or regards their way as correct, is a kaafir.

다신론자를 불신자로 여기지 않거나, 불신자인지 확신하지 못하거나, 그들의 길이 옳다고 여기는 사람들도 역시 불신자입니다.

4. Whoever believes that anything other than the teaching of the Prophet(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is more complete than his teachings, or that the rulings of anyone else are better than his rulings- such as those who prefer the rule of false laws to his rulings- is a kaafir.

선지자 마호메트(알라의 평화와 축복이 그에게 있기를)의 가르침이나 규칙보다 더 훌륭한 것이 있다고 믿는 사람은 선지자 마호메트가 가르친 규칙이 아닌 잘못된 규칙을 선호하는 것이므로 이러한 사람은 불신자입니다.

5. Whoever hates any part of that which the Prophet(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought, even if he acts in accordance with it, is a kaafir, because Allaah says(interpretation of the meaning): “That is because they hate that which Allaah has sent down (this Qur’aan and Islamic laws; so He made their deeds fruitless”[Muhammad 47:9]

선지자 마호메트(알라의 평화와 축복이 그에게 있기를)의 가르침을 따르기는 하지만, 그 중 일부분이라도 싫어하는 사람이 있다면 그는 불신자입니다. 왜냐하면 알라가 “그것은 그들이 알라가 계시한 것을 혐오한 것으로 인하여 그분께서 그들의 행위를 무익하게 했을 뿐이라”(마호메트 47:9)라고 말하였기 때문입니다.

6. Whoever makes fun of anything in the religion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or makes fun of any texts that refer to rewards or punishments, is a kaafir. The evidence for that is the verse (interpretation of the meaning): “Say: Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed”[al-Tawbah 9:65~66]

선지자 마호메트(알라의 평화와 축복이 그에게 있기를)의 종교, 또는 보상이나 처벌에 대한 문구를 가지고 농담하는 사람은 불신자입니다. 그 증거는 다음 구절에 있습니다. “그대가 그들에게 질문하니 우리는 잡담으로 얘기를 하고 있었을 뿐입니다 라고 대답하더라 일러 가로되 알라와 그분의 말씀과 선지자를 너희는 아직도 조롱하고 있느뇨 변명치 말라 너희는 믿음을 표시한 후 불신하였으매 너희 가운데 용서받을 무리가 있을 것이며, 벌을 받을 무리가 있으리니 그들은 죄인들이라”(타우바 9:65~66)

7. Sihr(witchcraft)- including spells to turn one person against another or to make someone love another. Whoever does this or approves of it is a kaafir. The evidence for that is the verse(interpretation of the meaning): “but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, ‘We are for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)”[al-Baqarah 2:102]

시흐르(마술)나, 주문을 외우서 사람들을 적으로 만들거나 서로 사랑하게 하거나 이 같은 행위를 용인하는 사람은 불신자입니다. 이에 대한 증거는 바까라에 있습니다. “…천사들은 어느 누구에게도 그것을 가르치지 아니하고 말하길 우리는 단지 시험에 들었으니 알라의 인도를 불신하지 말라…”(바까라 2:102)

8. Supporting the mushrikeen and helping them against the Muslims. The evidence for that is the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’(friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon(polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)”[al-Maa’idah 5:51]

무슬림 대신 다신론자를 지원하거나 돕는 행위. 이에 대한 증거는 마이다에 있는 알라의 기록입니다. “믿는 자들이여 유대인과 기독교인들을 친구로 그리고 보호자로써 택하지 말라 그들은 서로가 친구들이라 그들에게로 향하는 너희가 있다면 그는 그 무리의 일원이거늘 알라는 이 우매한 백성들을 인도하지 아니하시리라” (마이다 5:51)

9. Whoever believes that some people are allowed to operate outside the law of Muhammad(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) just as al-Khidr operated outside the law of Moosa(peace be upon him) is a kaafir, because Allaah says(interpretation of the meaning): “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

키드르가 모세(그에게 평화를)의 율법 범주 밖에서 움직였던 것처럼, 마호메트(알라의 평화와 축복이 임하기를)의 법칙 밖에서 움직여도 무방한 사람이 있다고 믿는 그 사람도 불신자입니다. 왜냐하면 알라가 “이슬람 외에 다른 종교를 추구하는 자 결코 수락되지 않을 것이니 내세에서 패망자 가운데 있게 되리라”라고 말했기 때문입니다. (이므란3:85)

10. Turning away from the religion of Allaah, not learning it and not acting in accordance with it. The evidence for that is the verse (interpretation of the meaning): “And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Ayaat(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, then turns aside therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimoon(criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners)”[al-Sajdah 32:22]

알라의 종교를 떠나서 이슬람교를 배우지 않고 그 방식대로 살아가지 않는 사람도 불신자입니다. 이에 대한 증거는 싸즈다에 나와 있습니다. “알라의 말씀을 기억한 후 그 말씀을 배반한 자보다 더 사악함이 어디 있느뇨 실로 알라는 죄인들에게 벌을 내릴 것이라”(싸즈다 32:22)

With regard to all of these acts that nullify Islam, it makes no difference whether a person is joking, serious or afraid, unless he is forced to do it. All of them are very serious, and they all happen a great deal. The Muslim should beware of them and fear falling into them. We seek refuge with Allaah from the things that may incur His wrath and painful punishment. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon the best of His creation, Muhammad, and upon his family and companions.

이 모든 행동들은 이슬람을 무시하는 것이며, 이러한 행위가 장난이었던지, 진심이었던지, 또는 두려움을 느꼈다 하더라도 별반 차이가 없습니다. 다만 강압적으로 어쩔 수 없이 행했다면 이 경우만은 예외입니다. 하지만 이런 일은 대부분은 심각한 의도로 벌이는 것입니다. 무슬림들은 불신자들의 행태를 주의하고 이에 빠지지 않도록 조심해야 합니다. 우리는 알라의 분노와 고통스러운 형벌을 받게 만드는 행위를 버리고 알라와 안전하게 있길 원합니다. 알라가 그의 최고 피조물인 마호메트와 그의 가족, 동료에게 축복과 평화를 더하길 바랍니다.

The fourth category includes these who believe that the systems and laws devised by men are better than the sharee’ah of Islam, or equal to it; or that it is permissible to refer to them for judgments and rulings, even if he believes that referring to sharee’ah is better; or that the Islamic system is not fit to be applied in the twentieth century; or that it was the cause of the Muslims’ backwardness; or that it should be limited to a person’s relationship with his Lord and not have anything to do with the other affairs of life.

또 한가지 유형은 인간이 만든 시스템과 법률이 이슬람의 샤리아보다 더 우월하거나 최소한 동등하다고 믿는 것입니다. 또는 샤리아가 더 좋다고 믿으면서도 인간의 법률을 참고할 수 있다고 생각하는 것도 마찬가지 입니다. 또는 이슬람의 시스템이 현재 21세기에는 어울리지 않으며, 그것을 고집하는 무슬림은 구시대적이라고 생각하는 것입니다. 아니면, 샤리아가 인간과 신 사이의 신앙 문제에만 관여하고 다른 문제는 샤리아와 별개라고 생각하는 것도 문제입니다.

The fourth category also includes those who think that carrying out the ruling of Allaah by cutting off the hand of the thief or stoning the married adulterer is not appropriate in the modern age.

또한 알라의 명령에 따라 도둑의 손목을 자르고 간음을 행한 사람을 돌로 쳐죽여야 한다는 법이 현대 시대에 적합하지 않다고 생각하는 것도 마찬가지입니다.

That also includes: everyone who believes that it is permissible to rule according to something other than the laws of Allaah with regard to interactions, hudood punishments or other matters, even if he does not believe that that is better than the ruling of sharee’ah, because by doing so he is regarding as permissible something that Allaah has forbidden according to consensus, and everyone who regards as permissible something that Allaah has forbidden and is well known to be forbidden in Islam, such that no Muslim has any excuse for not knowing that it is forbidden, such as adultery, alchohol and riba, and ruling by something other than the sharee’ah of Allaah, is a kaafir according to the consensus of the Muslims.

다음과 같은 경우가 모두 포함됩니다. 먼저 인터액션, 후두드 형벌과 다른 문제를 처리할 때, 알라의 법률이 아닌 규칙을 적용하는 것이 가능하다고 생각하는 것입니다. 물론 샤리아가 더 우월한 법이라고 생각하더라도, 비이슬람 법률을 적용할 경우, 합의에 따라 알라가 금지한 것을 허용할 가능성이 있기 때문에 이 같은 생각은 위험합니다. 그리고 알라가 금지하여 모든 무슬림들이 인지하고 있는 간음이나 음주, 고리대금과 같은 행위를 용납할 수 있다고 생각하는 것과, 알라의 샤리아 이외의 법으로 다스려야 한다고 생각하는 모든 것은 불신자의 것이라고 모든 무슬림들이 합의하였습니다.
