Jesus Saves Exactly the Way God Saves –

Since Jesus is God Incarnate!

Sam Shamoun

The inspired Scriptures teach that Yahweh alone is able to save people from their sins. The sacred writings further attest that Yahweh does so for his own name’s sake, and not for the sake of another,

“You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no savior… I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:10-11, 25

Who is a God like You, bearing iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of His inheritance? He does not remain angry forever, because He delights in benevolence. He will again have compassion upon us. He will tread down our iniquities, and cast all of our sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:18-19

“If you, O Lord, should keep track of iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? For there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared… Let Israel wait for the Lord! For mercy is found with the Lord; with Him is great redemption. He shall redeem Israel from all their iniquities.” Psalm 130:3-4

For Your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.” Psalm 25:11

“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; deliver us, and purge away our sins, for Your name’s sake.” Psalm 79:9 – cf. 54:1; 78:38

This means that God forgives people on the basis of his character. In other words, since Yahweh is a gracious and loving God he takes no pleasure in destroying his creatures, but rather delights in saving them from their wicked ways, just as the following passages clearly attest:

“For You, Lord, are good, and forgiving, abounding in kindness to all who call on You… But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy and truth.” Psalm 86:5, 15

“For the Lord will not cast off forever. But though He causes grief, yet He will have compassion according to the abundance of His mercies. For He does not afflict from His heart, nor grieve the sons of men.” Lamentations 3:31-33

“Therefore as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel: Thus you have spoken, saying, ‘Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them. How should we then live?’ Say to them: As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, O house of Israel?” Ezekiel 33:10-11

“Rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and He relents from punishing. Who knows? He might turn aside and relent, and He might leave behind a blessing—a grain offering and a food offering for the Lord your God.” Joel 2:13-14

The following event perfectly reveals God’s character and attitude towards sinners, showing that his desire is for them to turn and live:

“The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, ‘Get up, go to Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.’ So Jonah got up and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three-day journey across. Jonah began to enter the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, ‘In forty days’ time, Nineveh will be overthrown!’ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast. And everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself in sackcloth, and sat in ashes. Then he made a proclamation in Nineveh: ‘By decree of the king and his nobles: No man or animal, no herd or flock, shall taste anything. They shall not eat or drink water. Both man and animals shall cover themselves with sackcloth and cry mightily to God. All shall turn from their evil ways and from the violence that is in their hands. Who knows? God may relent and change His mind. He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.’ When God saw their actions, that they turned from their evil ways, He changed His mind about the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it. Now this greatly displeased Jonah, and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord! Is this not what I said while I was still in my own land? This is the reason that I fled before to Tarshish, because I knew that You are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in faithfulness, and ready to relent from punishment.’…  The Lord said, ‘You are troubled about the plant for which you did not labor and did not grow. It came up in a night and perished in a night. Should I not, therefore, be concerned about Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people, who do not know their right hand from their left, and also many animals?’” Jonah 3:1-10, 4:1-2, 10-11

Astonishingly, the NT writings testify that Jesus Christ is also capable of perfectly saving people from their sins since he possesses the authority to forgive all transgressions:

“When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven you.’ But some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts, ‘Why does this Man speak such blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?’ Immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, He said to them, ‘Why do you contemplate these things in your hearts? Which is easier to say to the paralytic: “Your sins are forgiven you,” or to say, “Rise, take up your bed and walk”? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,’ He said to the paralytic, ‘I say to you, rise, and take up your bed, and go your way to your house.’ Immediately he rose, picked up the bed, and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, ‘We never saw anything like this!’” Mark 2:5-12

In fact, the NT documents go so far as to proclaim that people are forgiven and saved on the basis of Jesus’ name,

“Then He said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’ Those who sat at supper with Him began to say to themselves, ‘Who is He who even forgives sins?’ He said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.’” Luke 7:48-50

“He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and in the Prophets and in the Psalms concerning Me.’ Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and accordingly it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached IN HIS NAME to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.’” Luke 24:44-47

“When they heard this, they were stung in the heart and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call.’” Acts 2:37-39

“God, having raised up His Son Jesus, sent Him to you first, to bless you in turning every one of you from your iniquities.” Acts 3:26

“God exalted this Man to His right hand to be a Ruler and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.” Acts 5:31

“When He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, of whom He testified, saying, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will fulfill My entire will.’ From this man’s descendants God has raised a Savior for Israel, Jesus, according to His promise… Therefore, brothers, let it be known to you that through this Man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by Him everyone who believes is justified from everything from which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses.” Acts 13:22-23, 38-39

“I will deliver you from your people and from the Gentiles to whom I now send you, to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.” Acts 26:17-18

Since it is his name alone which is able to grant salvation to all who turn to him in faith:

“On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes were assembled at Jerusalem with Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John and Alexander, and all who were of the family of the high priest. When they had stood them in the midst, they asked, ‘By what power or by what name have you done this?’ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we today are being examined concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, how this man has been healed, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands before you whole. He is “the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.” There is NO salvation IN ANY OTHER, for there is NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN given among men by which we must be saved.’ When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were illiterate and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. But seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.” Acts 4:5-14

The inspired Christian Scriptures even attest that Christ voluntarily offered his life as a vicarious sacrifice for the purpose of making atonement in order to redeem his followers from their sinful ways, and to save them from God’s righteous wrath which shall be poured out full strength on all evildoers:

“As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take and eat. This is My body.’ Then He took the cup, and after He gave thanks, He gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink of it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’” Matthew 26:26-28 – cf. Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19-20

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 – cf. Matthew 20:28

“to the praise of the glory of His grace which He graciously bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace,” Ephesians 1:6-7

“Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children. Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God Wives, be submissive to your own husbands as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head and Savior of the church, which is His body. But as the church submits to Christ, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, and that He might present to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:1-2, 22-27

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins… For it pleased the Father that in Him all fullness should dwell, and to reconcile all things to Himself by Him, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him, I say—whether they are things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, who were formerly alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless and above reproach in His sight,” Colossians 1:13-14, 19-22

“There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all. This was the testimony given at the proper time.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin… My little children, I am writing these things to you, so that you do not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world… I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake.” 1 John 1:7, 2:1-2, 12

“In this way the love of God was revealed to us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins… And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.” 1 John 4:9-10, 14

Now the only way that Jesus could be able to save and forgive all sinners is if in fact he was/is Yahweh God Almighty since, as we saw earlier, only Yahweh is able to save anyone from their transgressions. Logically, there is simply no way around this:

A. Yahweh God alone is able to save people from their sins, and does so for the sake of his own name.

B. Jesus Christ saves people from their sins, and also grants forgiveness and redemption for the sake of his own name.

C. Jesus must therefore be Yahweh God in the flesh (even though he is not the Father or the Holy Spirit).

Lo and behold, this is precisely what the Holy Bible teaches, namely, Jesus Christ is our great God and Savior Yahweh who came to save and redeem his people from their sins, purifying them by his precious blood so that they might be his cherished possession forever:

“She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS (Heb. Yeshua = Yehoshua =Yahweh is salvation’), for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

“as we await the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for Himself a special people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:13-14
